End welfare to help the poor

Dependence [on welfare] induces a spiritual and moral disintegration fundamentally destructive to the national fiber. To dole our relief in this way is to administer a narcotic, a subtle destroyer of the human spirit.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt, 1935

President Roosevelt intended welfare to be a temporary fix to allow a man to get back on his feet. Welfare was never intended to be a permanent enslavement of generations. President Roosevelt words were clearly illustrated following the looting and other crimes in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina.

This editorial is not directed at the elderly, infirm, or children all of whom suffered greatly in this ordeal. For those who chose to drop out of school, not work, and not be productive members of society, you received what you paid for in exchange for your votes for those who keep you in modern day slavery. This editorial is directed at you.

I will address the breakdown in the government's response to Katrina in a subsequent editorial.

Socialism is not the answer to your problems, then, now, or in the future. Self-reliance is the only way out of your dilemma. Brush yourself off, take this chance to move to where there are jobs, get an education and / or join the military if qualified, and break the yokes of welfare that holds you back.

Let America help you by helping yourself.

Someone should have been saying this long ago and kept saying it. How did we go so wrong.
